Drawing inspiration from her Italian and French literature studies at Oxford University, London-based designer Rosh Mahtani founded her unique jewellery brand, Alighieri, in 2014.

Forming the basis for the brand’s artistic collections is the mythical creatures and scraggy landscapes of Divine Comedy – a book of poems written in the Middle Ages by Florentine poet and philosopher, Dante Alighieri.

Battered, unexpected and brave in design, each piece has its own story to tell. For example, the rough, protruding texture of the brand’s ‘Rocky Road’ earrings celebrate the idea that often the most arduous journeys are the ones that bring us the most joy.

Sustainability and local craftsmanship are key too, with each piece starting with founder Rosh using a candle and some wax to hand-craft the brand’s signature molten textures, scraggy lines and bulbous surfaces, before they’re cast using recycled materials by a family-run business just two streets away from the brand’s London studio.
