Slotting seamlessly into your daytime routine, “you can just bung them on with a big, oversized T-shirt – or a crop top if you’re feeling brave enough,” says Katie. “Add a beach bag, your slides and some jewellery and off you go!”

A perennial warm weather favourite, shorts have become a default during the summer months. But “rather than thinking of shorts as being something that's thrown on as casual,” consider investing in a “tailored short” or “city short for men” to add some interest to your looks. “I love shorts with suit jackets… I think it's quite unexpected, but it definitely works,” says Katie.

“Fashion right now is heading towards a very nineties to early 2000s period.” Fringing, cargo pants and a high fashion favourite – corseting – have all been seen on the catwalks for summer 2023. “It feels very chic and elevated,” says Katie. It’s the perfect alternative to a classic milkmaid or button-down blouse – giving shape, structure and interest to your usual summer get-up.

Whether for a countryside garden party or a weekend brunch in the city, “there's definitely an investment piece in a lightweight, tailored jacket for men,” says Katie. Be it a fresh, lighter hue for summer or a statement print for memorable outings, they’re guaranteed to style easy with your existing wardrobe. Play to tradition by wearing with chinos and Derby shoes or toe the line of smart-casual with boat shoes and shorts.

When it comes to navigating soaring temperatures, hanging loose becomes the mode du jour. Say hello to chic, comfortable, theatrical styling in the form of voluminous shirting. Light, loose and breezy, an oversized cotton or linen shirt can be tucked into everything from a pair of baggy jeans – or even better – with a pair of those chic tailored shorts. “It's a sunny look – something you can wear in town that’s both cool and summery,” says Katie.

With a subdued sense of effortless cool, baggy jeans are an essential this summer, no matter how you style them. Working as a low-key look with a white tee and clogs, they can be elevated with a tailored jacket to “throw off the fact that you're wearing jeans that are basically three sizes too big for you,” says Katie. “Plus, it's another way to make use of that investment piece of a tailored jacket.”

“I actually love print. But what I love for summer is print on print, head to toe,” says Katie. Right on time for your new summer wardrobe: lighter colours, blooming prints and sun’s-out silhouettes for a complete look you can just throw on and go. Even better, mix and match a two-piece with subdued separates to make it a worthy investment. Though, as Katie advises, “if you’re going to do print, just go for it.” After all, brighter days call for even brighter styling…
