How to dazzle with just your eyes on show

For some, a bright lip simply screams summer. But with face masks covering our pouts, this year the eyes have it!

Need a little help in creating a summery eye look that’s mask friendly? We asked Rachel Hardie, the lead artist at NARS, for her top tips.

01

Stay all day

Don’t let the summer heat get the best of you. Applying an eyeshadow base first will “ensure longevity”, explains Rachel. “It evens the skin tone on the lid and brightens the entire eye area”. Plus, it could even help you take your look from day to night!

Rachel recommends: the Tinted Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base in Medium.

Smoke it out

Leave the harsh black liner for winter and opt for a smudged brown shade to add definition and enhance your summer glow. “As lockdown eases I’ve enjoyed wearing more natural tones, such as warm browns and copper shades,” says Rachel. “Apply it along the lash line and blend softly onto your lid.” Plus, an added bonus, a warm brown liner makes blue, green and brown eyes pop!

Rachel recommends: the High Pigment Longwear Liner in Mambo, it gives a beautiful soft focus effect.

Let it glow

Evoke the glow of a summer sunset with a swipe of shimmering copper eyeshadow. “I love to press it on with my ring finger,” says Rachel. “This gives a subtle shimmer and brightens the eye.” Make it a thin layer for a subtle shine, or pack on the pigment to make a statement! Top it off with your favourite mascara (water-proof, of course) and you’re ready for the sand, the sea or the scene!

Rachel recommends: the Mendoza Eye Shadow for a really pretty pop.
