A collaboration with DÓMMINA ART
Founded by Martha Cea, DÓMMINA ART works to preserve and give visibility to contemporary Mexican art and craftsmanship, connecting its cultural heritage with new audiences.
Each piece in the journey carries a part of Mexico with it. Techniques, materials and knowledge passed down through generations connect the works to the places where they were created.
Dolores Hidalgo, Guanajuato. The craft of majolica pottery.
Hand-painted majolica pottery is part of the artisanal tradition of Dolores Hidalgo. It is here that Gerardo García creates his Catrinas, where colour and craftsmanship transform each figure into a unique piece.
Wixárika Territory. Crafted bead by bead.
Thousands of tiny glass beads, placed one by one, bring the jaguar and the masks featured in the exhibition to life. Their colours and patterns are not random; they reflect motifs and symbols deeply rooted in Wixárika culture.
Santa Clara del Cobre, Michoacán. The Legacy of Copper.
The journey culminates in Michoacán with the work of Audón Punzo Ángel, one of the leading masters of hand-hammered copper from Santa Clara del Cobre. His craft, learned in the family workshop, continues to be passed down to new generations. The altar also features Catrinas, candelabras and other handcrafted pieces from Michoacán.
