Matthias Geerts' guide to investment pieces
Passionate about picking everyday essentials that last, Matthias Geert understands that it’s the “material, quality and finish” that make a piece worth investing in. “Cheaper materials don’t last in the same way,” explains the 26-year-old Antwerp-based DJ.
“Last year I bought a puffa jacket and this year I’m after a lightweight trench, simply because I know they’ll never date.”
With autumn trends at the forefront of his mind, Matthias came to the Village in search of timeless pieces to wear for the upcoming season and beyond. A shirt from Sandro was the first piece to catch his eye, closely followed by a Prada wallet. It was however the BOSS X Russell Athletic trench coat that he named his ultimate investment piece.
Taking inspiration from the archives of both brands, this recent collaboration effortlessly combines all the cool of sportswear king Russell Athletic and all the sophistication of tailoring expert BOSS. The capsule collection features everything from shorts and sweatshirts to trainers and trenches. Matthias favoured the lightweight trench simply because “it’ll never go out of fashion and it’s perfect for the summer-to-autumn transition.”
When it comes to curating your own collection of investment items, he suggests considering the material first: “100% cotton T-shirts and hoodies hold their shape much better than polyester alternatives, so they’ll last far longer and do far less damage to the planet. Sustainable, durable pieces are well worth investing in.”
When it comes to exclusive fashion partnerships, he has this to say: “Just because collaborations often feature unique or quirky items, it doesn’t mean they can’t last a lifetime. It’s best to find collections that aren’t fresh off the catwalk – and Maasmechelen Village is the best place for that.”
