The secrets behind the landscaping of La Roca Village

Set against deep blue skies, the flowering plants of the Village awaken the senses with aromas, shapes and spectacular colours of the season. Landscaping offers us the opportunity to incorporate plants from the surrounding area into the Village; in our case, vegetation characteristic of the Mediterranean landscape. Every time our guests return to La Roca Village, they can enjoy a new horticultural experience as the changing rhythm of the seasons promises new blooms, colours and shapes.

We have more than 200 planters and flower pots, including olive trees, jasmine, lavender, thyme and verbena. Hydrangeas, ibiscuses, dahlias and camellias (Coco Chanel's favourite flowers) are also part of the Village's landscaping.

The abundant and well-kept vegetation of the Village offers unique Instagrammable moments for our guests. The favourite areas to photograph are the square – with a majestic fountain where you can pause on a bench to enjoy the surroundings– and the boulevard of lemon trees in front of Maje and Rituals.

A team of four gardeners works several days a week to ensure the Village is blooming. The gardeners take charge, from the initial conception of a particular design and choosing the plants to then planting, mowing, weeding, and pruning. Most of their work is done before 10 am, so they don’t hinder our guests as they shop or enjoy sitting at one of our outdoor terraces.

We use rainwater for all the plants and trees in the Village to be as sustainable as possible in our landscaping. Falling rainwater is captured in a tank, from which we draw our daily supply.

For our gardeners the best season of the year undoubtedly is spring, as you can imagine. During these months, all their work comes to fruition, a blaze of colour. It’s difficult for our gardener Ramón to choose his favourite place in the Village. “There are several beautiful spaces, depending on the time of year,“ he muses.. The planters there allow us to enjoy different types of vegetation. Even at Christmas, with the lights, it’s spectacular. The boulevard of Zadig et Voltaire is also beautiful, where you can find fig trees and a type of hydrangea that has a beautiful flower. As you see, I can't decide on one favourite place...”

Of course, none of this would be possible without the passion and dedication of our gardeners, plus the work of our Operations and Security teams!
