Think ahead and take the opportunity to invest in beautiful silhouettes that you can depend upon when the next big occasion arises. “There’s nothing worse than being invited to a party or smart event and finding you don’t have anything dressy in your wardrobe – that’s when you may rush out and last-minute panic buy something you don’t love,” says Maxine, who believes in building a wardrobe for every eventuality, so that you’re never caught off guard.

If you like to dip into the trends, try to choose looks in the sales that resonate with your personal style codes and that will stand the test of time. When in doubt, Maxine suggests turning to the season’s forever florals, animal prints and bohemian silhouettes. “The sportswear trend also shows no sign of disappearing, and remember black and white never go out of fashion,” advises the stylist, who recommends investing in an en blanc or tonal palette of pale grey, cream and white for all seasons.

People have such a specific perception of themselves, but often it’s a stranger’s opinion that helps us decide whether a piece works or not. Feelings can’t be bought, so finding a piece that attracts lots of compliments can really transform how you feel. "Fashion is such a strong way of expressing yourself, so we’ll nurture what makes our guests unique – even pushing them out of their comfort zones and steering them towards an eye-catching colour or design," adds Jamal.

Insider knowledge is key if you want to make the most of your visit. “We’ll have a session where we run through a client’s wish list: what are they looking for, which event are they going to, how are they going to style it? That way, they avoid buying for the sake of buying,” says Jamal. “We’re like a data bank for the Village – we spot the most amazing pieces and can check sizes for guests before they even arrive."
