Mercat de la Boqueria: the best in the world

The Boqueria Market officially opened in 1836, making it the first municipal market in Barcelona. Over the years, it’s become an obligatory stop on the Rambla, with more than 300 stalls of everything from fresh produce – fruits, vegetables, meats and fish – to the delicious treats at market bars such as El Quim de la Boqueria (our favourite!) You’ll need patience and luck to snag one of the bar’s 18 stools, but once perched, tasting its elaborate dishes, made with produce from the Boqueria, is worth it.

Did you know? Food & Wine’s Global Tastemakers have classified the Boqueria Market as the best in the world for its diversity, location, merchants and for being “the cathedral of Catalan cuisine”.

There’s no summer without Beso Pedralbes

Barcelona’s new beach is nestled in the Pedralbes neighbourhood. In the recently opened Gran Meliá Hotel’s gardens sits Beso Pedralbes, home to more than 25,000 square meters of a spectacular pool, a sandy beach, a stage and plenty of terraces. Not just a place to lounge; this paradise plays host to fabulous cuisine, too. Taste traditional recipes inspired by the sea and fire, fusing Mediterranean and Basque flavours to create mouth-watering dishes. It’s the best place to take shelter from the sun and enjoy a dip, a cocktail and a delicious meal with friends.

Our recommendation: Summer doesn't start until you see a photo of someone sitting on the iconic #NOHAYVERANOSINBESO bench. Now, it’s your turn to snap that Instagram-ready shot.

A relaxing day at Mas Salagros EcoResort

Need a break from the city? Just 40 minutes from Barcelona lies Mas Salagros EcoResort, the first 100% ecological resort on the Peninsula. Located in a nature reserve and overlooking the protected Serralada Litoral Park, it’s the ideal place to disconnect your mind. Relax with a treatment at the Roman-inspired AIRE Ancient Baths and activate your taste buds with eco-friendly, local delicacies at Cibus, 1497 and Gastro Wine Bar restaurants.

Did you know?: Mas Salagros EcoResort offers a multitude of exclusive activities for its guests – with some available for non-guests – including full-moon hikes and workshops with its expert chef.

An afternoon of art at MACBA

In a bustling square in the Raval district – long-beloved by skaters – sits the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA), an essential gem for lovers of both international and Catalan contemporary art. Through painting, video art and installations, as well as more artistic mediums, MACBA supports the construction of a freer society with a critical spirit by embracing artistic diversity. For the best visit, check the museum’s programme before visiting to find out which of its exhibition will leave you speechless.

Did you know? Unlike most museums in Barcelona, visiting MACBA is free on Saturdays from 4 pm to 8 pm.
