“The coolest corner of Paris is Pigalle, which borders the ninth and eighteenth arrondissements,” says Katie Felstead, stylist and fashion director of GLASS magazine. “It’s technically the red light district, where the Moulin Rouge is, but it’s an incredibly diverse part of the city. There you’ll find exciting restaurants from young, up-and-coming chefs. There’s a big Algerian population in Pigalle too, so there’s lots of delicious North African cuisine.”

From the landmark-filled first arrondissement to the lively and artistic sixth, there are distinct personalities to be found in each of Paris’ spiralling mosaic of neighbourhoods. For traditional Parisian style, we love the Grand Hôtel du Palais Royal, sitting at the very centre of the city. “I’m always fond of a hotel bar and there are some tremendous ones in Paris,” says Katie. “The bar Les Ambassadeurs, at Hôtel de Crillon in the eighth arrondissement, is a lot like Claridge’s.” Stop by for a creative cocktail and live music.

“And no trip is complete without an indulgent hot chocolate from Café de Flore. Angelina’s, on the Rue de Rivoli, is another great place. It’s the Paris equivalent of a tearoom and their hot chocolate is insanely delicious.”

Of course, like the Eiffel Tower and strolls along the Seine, there are some spots that are just quintessentially Paris. “It’s obvious, but you haven’t lived until you’ve been to the Louvre,” says Katie. “Then there are Napoleon’s apartments, which no one knows much about, but they’re absolutely extraordinary – such opulent design.” Located in the Louvre’s Richelieu Wing, get in touch for a private tour after hours.
