Episode III: of sun and earth
This Christmas, fibre artisans reinterpret nature with their hands, transforming the Village with pieces that celebrate the beauty of the essential. Each braid, each knot, each loop is an encounter between form and movement, between origin and imagination.
Los artesanos
Cocol, Berta Bucam y los esparteros de Villarejo de Salvanés
Christmas Tree
A handcrafted creation that reinterprets the Christmas tree from the essence of traditional braiding in natural fibres. A dialogue between the wisdom of the esparto grass weavers of Villarejo de Salvanés, the contemporary perspective of basketry artisan and researcher Berta Bucam and the curatorial vision of Pepa Entrena, the visionary behind Cocol. This collective work unites tradition, sustainability and a festive spirit.
Sagarminaga Atelier
Sagarminaga Atelier creates handcrafted pieces that preserve traditional techniques and celebrate artistic beauty. From the workshop in Bilbao, the artisans conceive and craft each piece by hand, using plant fibres and natural cords. A dialogue between balance and volume, emptiness and rhythm, between the raw and the aesthetic.
Works
Eroded Column – Dance – Little Monster
Conceived in esparto grass with pith finishes, these pieces highlight the expressive richness of the plant fibre. Through braiding, twisting and weaving, the material reveals its flexibility, its resistance and its capacity to adopt sculptural forms.
Rain and Snow
Made of esparto grass on a wooden base, it represents a small universe where rain and snow meet in a play of textures and nuances.
Mirror and its waves
The vibration of nature leaves its mark on this mirror, woven in rattan on a wooden base. The movement of the waves transforms this everyday object into a piece that connects the space with its surroundings.
Raúl del Chano
Copico
Basket maker Raúl del Chano evokes the mountains of his homeland with this sculpture, woven from agave fibre using the looping technique. Inspired by winter, the piece suggests a snowflake. Suspended from a golden pulley, the rope holds bush-hammered stones and wicker elements that represent rocks and trees, composing a winter landscape with a Christmas spirit.
Pont De Querós
Shadows
Art with plant fibre unites artisanal knowledge and innovation to create natural and sustainable solutions. Its structural richness allows for the construction, from nature, of contemporary forms applied to design, architecture, and landscape.
