Fresh and fashionable.

Every season, Maasmechelen Village offers a fresh take on art, fashion and how they collide into one unique retail experience. This spring, the Village is welcoming a host of exciting new works, as Australian artist and illustrator Karan Singh has given our shopping boulevard a fresh new look. The Melbourne-based artist is known for his use of bold colours and dynamic patterns that verge on optical illusions: the perfect bright and bold approach to match a fresh and fashionable new season.

With designs for Louis Vuitton, Nike and The Academy Awards under his belt, Singh has quickly become an industry favourite. According to the artist himself, it’s the arty, minimalist lines that make his work so popular with fashion brands around the world: “My style is a contemporary version of the op art movement, which included optical illusions that transformed mathematical equations into art. In fashion, there is something appealing about this type of minimalism; the simplicity and elegance of it.”

Singh’s goal is to communicate ideas in the simplest of ways, and with just the right colours. “I’m very excited by colour palettes and how colour defines the tone of a piece. I like to convey as much detail, depth and dimension as possible in as few colours as possible, so finding the right colours really feels like solving a puzzle.” Fun fact: Singh usually leaves picking colours until the end of the process as he finds it the most challenging part. Curious to see which colours he picked for his work in the Village? Stop by between and and find out for yourself.
