Palazzo della Pilotta The Palazzo della Pilotta is a unique monumental complex symbolising the ducal power of the Farnese family. The complex houses the Teatro Farnese, the National Gallery of Parma, the National Archaeological Museum and the Palatine Library, which share a long history. Their unity continues today as they celebrate culture and science, opening their doors to tourists and locals alike.

National Gallery The National Gallery was established by the Dukes of Parma, Don Filippo and Don Ferdinando di Borbone, and enriched by works acquired by duchess Marie Louise. The gallery, located inside the Palazzo della Pilotta, houses an important collection of works, including pieces by Correggio, Parmigianino, Canova, Tiepolo and Da Vinci.

Farnese Theatre The Farnese Theatre, built entirely from wood by Giovan Battista Aleotti, was commissioned by Ranuccio I Farnese in 1618 to celebrate Cosimo II de' Medici passing through Parma on his way to Milan. Located in the Palazzo della Pilotta, the theatre replaced the original Sala d’Armi, which was almost completely destroyed in the Second World War. The reconstruction was carried out in the 1950s using the original plans, leaving recovered and once decorated wooden parts uncovered to highlight the few remains of the original structure.
