“Mille Miroirs” by Cyril Lancelin in Wertheim Village

Art that opens up spaces

As part of World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026, Wertheim Village will present the installation “Mille Miroirs” by French artist Cyril Lancelin from 1st June through the end of August 2026, transforming the public space into an interactive experience of reflection, movement, and encounter.

The title refers to mirrors—indeed, the work unfolds as a multi-layered structure of golden and silver spheres, reflective surfaces, and modular elements. Passages, gates, and seating areas emerge. Visitors move through them, shifting perspectives and experiencing the space anew each time.

"Walking through Mille Miroirs means entering a reflective, dreamlike landscape of light, shadow, and movement" - Lancelin

Design as Part of Everyday Life

This accessibility is at the heart of the World Design Capital. Under the theme “Design for Democracy – Atmospheres for a Better Life,” it views design as an integral part of everyday life: open, accessible, and something everyone can experience.
Mille Miroirs is freely accessible and invites visitors to engage with it without any prior knowledge. Shared spaces of experience emerge—places for lingering, encountering others, and discovering new perspectives.

About the artist

Cyril Lancelin, originally an architect, works at the intersection of art, design, and space. His modular installations are always created in dialogue with their surroundings and explore how spaces are formed—and how we move within them.

“I wanted to foster a sense of wonder and show how art can connect disciplines, cultures, and people.” — Lancelin
