Regio Theatre
Originally the New Ducal Theatre, the Teatro Regio di Parma was founded by the duchess Marie Louise, Napoleon’s second wife who was sent to rule the Duchy of Parma, Piacenza and Guastalla after the Congress of Vienna. Since its inauguration in 1829, the theatre has been witness to, and protagonist of, significant changes in the world of opera: from the end of the Rossini era to the reign of Verdi’s repertoire, through the appreciation of French and German expression to the rapid evolution of Verismo in Italian opera from the likes of Mascagni, Leoncavallo and Puccini.
Discover the rich history of the Teatro Regio with a 30-minute guided tour – available in both Italian and English – during which you can visit the theatre’s Foyer, Sala and Ridotto. The route is suitable for disabled guests and advance booking is recommended for groups. When rehearsals or performances are taking place some parts of the theatre may not be open to visitors, and guided tours may not be running. We therefore recommend checking availability prior to your visit.
