Shopping, hospitality and culture for Lunar New Year
From 9 February to 1 March 2026, Fidenza Village, one of the 12 Villages in The Bicester Collection, renews its dialogue with cultures from around the world and celebrates Lunar New Year by welcoming the Year of the Fire Horse, traditionally associated with energy, determination, enterprise and a powerful drive towards change. In East Asia, Lunar New Year marks the beginning of a new cycle and a return to shared gestures: a season of renewal and collective rituals.
An international destination welcoming visitors from around the world and home to more than 120 boutiques, Fidenza Village interprets Lunar New Year as an act of cultural hospitality: from the welcome at The Concierge to its boutiques, restaurants and gourmet spaces, the Village opens itself to global traditions, translating them into experiences, encounters and stories.
The Wishing Tree: the ritual of wishes
At the symbolic heart of Fidenza Village’s Lunar New Year celebrations is the magical Wishing Tree, located at The Concierge. The wishing tree invites guests to pause, take a card, write down a thought and attach it with a red ribbon, a colour traditionally associated with good luck in Chinese tradition. A simple yet powerful gesture that brings a personal moment into a public space, entrusting it to a shared ritual.
From China to Fidenza Village: an age-old ritual becomes an experience
Rooted in religious and popular practices stretching back centuries, the Wishing Tree remains a living symbol in Eastern culture: it represents the connection between the human and spiritual worlds and embodies hope, good fortune and prosperity. Writing a wish on a red card and hanging it on the tree means entrusting one’s aspirations to the universe, using a colour traditionally associated with good fortune and protection.
Among the best-known examples is Hong Kong’s Lam Tsuen Wishing Tree, where thousands of people throw red notes tied to oranges towards the branches during Lunar New Year, in the belief that if they remain hanging, the wish will come true. A practice that transforms an ancient gesture into a shared experience capable of reshaping space and time, from Hong Kong to Fidenza Village.
Hospitality, taste, shopping and contemporary rituals
To mark Lunar New Year and the Year of the Fire Horse, Fidenza Village creates a welcoming experience that combines conviviality and traditional symbols through a contemporary lens.
The Mogu Mogu Station arrives at The Conciergerie, creating an informal and lively meeting space where guests can sample the well-known fruit-flavoured Asian drink. At Asian fusion restaurant Koi, alongside traditional Asian dishes, guests can enjoy a typical matcha café, made with Japanese green tea known for its antioxidant properties. A sensory experience that transforms the celebration period into a shared occasion where shopping, flavours and rituals intertwine.
Shopping at Fidenza Village also becomes a ritual of renewal: a selection of clothing and accessories designed to accompany the transition into a new cycle, balancing tradition and modernity. Boutiques including Marni, Coach, Apesi and Peserico offer clean lines, authentic materials and symbolic details evoking harmony, movement and continuity. From clean colour palettes to timeless silhouettes, every style choice becomes an intentional gesture, a way of welcoming the new with quality, restraint and awareness.
Fidenza Village, part of The Bicester Collection, a family of 12 luxury shopping Villages across Europe, the United States and China, celebrates Lunar New Year from an international perspective. This approach is an integral part of the Collection’s identity and is enriched by direct experience: its presence in China enables an ongoing exchange of knowledge, sensitivities and cultural traditions between the Villages. The result is a welcome that speaks a “global language” with discretion and authenticity.
Fun Fact: fashion, time and symbols: the Fire Horse and its fashion icons
If Lunar New Year is a moment when the calendar becomes a narrative, the Year of the Fire Horse is one of those periods that seems made for fashion: energy, speed and transformation. It is perhaps fitting, therefore, that 1966, a Year of the Fire Horse according to the Chinese lunar calendar, coincided with the birth of two central figures in contemporary fashion: Cindy Crawford (20 February) and Tatjana Patitz (25 May). Both embodied, in different ways, the momentum and transformative power of an extraordinary era.
Crawford redefined the idea of confident, dynamic and instantly recognisable beauty during the 1990s, becoming one of the most influential supermodels of all time. Patitz, also part of the legendary “Big Six”, the group of six power models who dominated the catwalks between the 1980s and 1990s, was a muse to Peter Lindbergh, contributing to a more essential and narrative aesthetic in fashion photography. She passed away in 2023 and was among the last muses photographed by Herb Ritts, symbolically closing an era in the fashion imagination.
