Tax Free Shopping for International Visitors
Permanent residents of non-EU countries may be eligible for Tax Free Shopping and can reclaim part of the VAT paid on qualifying purchases.
To qualify, a minimum spend of €70.01 per tax free invoice, per store is required. The refund represents a portion of the Italian 22% VAT, less operator fees, and may allow you to recover a significant percentage of the tax paid.
Remember to request your tax free form before paying and keep your passport ready. Purchases must remain unused, retain their original tags and be exported from the European Union within three months of purchase.
Before returning home, your tax free documentation must be validated at your final point of departure from the EU, which may not necessarily be your departure airport in Italy.
Tax Free Shopping applies only to Italian VAT. When you return home, customs duties, local VAT or other taxes may still apply depending on your country's import regulations.
